Important tips for a healthy mouth.

  1. Brush: Twice a day for about 2 min, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste that contains fluoride your toothbrush can either be manual or electric. Brushing cleares teeth of food particles, plague and bacteria. Wait 30-45min after you eat or drink, to the aside in your mouth drop into normal levels. Brush after breakfast, and again before going to bed at night- after you’re done eating and drinking for the day when your brush, spend some tme on every part of your mouth. Replace your toothbrush, with a new one every 3- 4 moths.

  2. Floss: Once a day, use dental floss to clean the tight space between your teeth. Flossing removes the tarter that collects at the gum line. This interdental cleaning is important because toothbrush cannot reach between the teeth and therefore, only cleans 50% of the surfaces. Floss before you brush-that way the fluoride in your toothpaste can wat more of the surface of each tooth. Use about 18 inches of floss and wrap it around your middle finger so that you can pull it tight. Focus on one tooth at a time and use a gentle rubbing motion rather than a harsh scrape. Unwind fresh floss from your finger as yours switch teeth. If you find it difficult to use normal floss, an interdental cleaner can be used to maintain oral health. Floss threaders are ideal for cleaning between orthodontic appliances, and flossetts are ideal for those with poor dexterity. A waxed floss or a dental tap can get into tight spaces, especially in crowded/overlapped teeth.

  3. Rinse: Talk with your dentist about what kind of mouthwash you should use, and how often. Mouthwashes are usually of three types – Saline (warm salty water), Essential oils or Cetye pyridinum Chloride (CPC) mouthwash and chlorhexidine gluconate. Some kills bacteria, some to contain fluoride and some do both. After you use mouthwash, don’t eat, drink or rinse your mouth for 30min.

  4. Clean tour tongue : Tongue contains numerous bacteria which cause bad breath. Tongue cleaners are designed to remove the debris built up on the tongue.

  5. Chew gum: After you eat, pop in a piece of sugar-free gum sweetened with xylitol. Xylitol kills bacteria that cause cavities and gum in general and make more saliva in your mouth which helps to bring down acid level. Chew hum for about 20 min after eat.

  6. Rinse again: If you are out and don’t have gum or toothbrush, Rinse your mouth with water. Rinsing loosens food particles from between your teeth and reduce the acids in your mouth.
