Achievements
-
What is dental Plague?Dental Plague, also known as dental biofilm, is a sticky, yellow consisting of a whole range of bacteria which attaches tooth surface and can be visible around the gum line. It starts to appear soon after the tooth surface has been cleared, which is why regular brushing is encouraged. A high sugar diet encourages the formation of plague.
-
What is calculus? The longer that plague stays on the tooth surface, the harder and more attached to the tooth it becomes, that is when it is referred to as calculus and needs to be removed by a dental professional.
-
What is tooth cavity? If left untreated, these bacteria cause dental cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. Severe gum disease cause at least one-third of adult tooth loss. Poor oral hygiene causes bad taste in the mouth and eventually bad breath (halitosis).
-
What is dental caries? If a person is snacking constantly, so that the sugar level in the mouth is high, plague forms rapidly. If dental hygiene is poor, and plague builds up, it prevents saliva reaching the surface of the teeth, leading to tooth decay. Bacteria in the plague convert sugars from food into acids, which dissolve the surface of tooth enamel and minerals leach out. The dark spot seen is dental decay at an early stage. Acids have dissolved the dental surface. Enamel dissolves rather slowly, but when the decay has eaten through the enamel to the dentin the decay progress more rapidly. When tooth decay reaches the pulp, and tooth becomes infected, inflammation results which leads to pressure and toothache. Hence, you should consult your dentist the moment you see black spots on your teeth.
